At the conclusion of the journey undertaken by the six italian artists selected for the residency held at the Fabbrica del Vapore since the end of April, as part of the artist residency project “FUTURA,” in the exhibition spaces of the Fondazione Stelline will be held from 19 September to 5 November 2023 the the third phase of the project, named “Attestare” and characterized by the exhibition Drifting Sides, curated by Giacomo Zaza, in which further unreleased projects by the six italian artists in residence will be presented with the works of international artists hosted during the first phase, in an exhibition summarizing and returning the entire experience.
The project kicked off in May with the first phase, “Interacting,” characterized by meetings with eight Italian and international artists that resulted in conversations, not only with curator Giacomo Zaza and the artists-in-residence, but also with the public in attendance and then continued with the second phase, “Deflecting,” characterized by the exhibition Slip Angles (29 June – 30 July 2023) in the Ex Cisterne space of the Fabbrica del Vapore, which saw the six italian artists present works conceived and created during the first residency period.
In the Collector’s Room of the Fondazione Stelline, the works of Benedetta Fioravanti, Valentina Furian, Nicoletta Grillo, Lisa Martini, Giovanna Repetto, and Davide Sgambaro are presented in close dialogue with those of the eight international guest artists, who between May and June at the Fabbrica del Vapore met with the resident artists in exciting encounters open to the public: Rui Chafes, Hicham Benohoud, Luis Gómez Armenteros, Ange Leccia, Eva Marisaldi, Lina Selander, Enrico Serotti, Driant Zeneli. The exhibition represents a journey to discover a “phylogeny” of contemporary practice in the field of multimedia visual arts from the 1980s to the present day.
The title of the exhibition captures the idea of a contemporary artistic scenario, a particular convergence of visual experiences to be deciphered, moving along the edges of unconventional contexts, meanings and associations. This title contains the idea of lateral direction that can disrupt, disorient, hijack or simply move by “drifting” to the sides of assimilated trajectories. Artists create new random landscapes and experiences from relationships between living forms, new technologies, customs and traditions.
Completing the exhibition is a catalog published by NFC Edizioni, with critical texts and dialogues by Giacomo Zaza, Maria Fratelli, Tommaso Sacchi, and Alessandra Klimciuk.
